Background
In this second paper in the series, we offer our presentation of Module 2 of the WHO’s Package of Interventions, PIR – Musculoskeletal Conditions, along with its satellite material – appendix addressing evidence base for the recommendations included in the guidance, specifically adequate best quality clinical practice guidelines, as well as Cochrane systematic reviews.

Aims
We examine the document from the perspective of physiotherapy recommendations within a multidisciplinary approach to functioning and functioning-oriented interventions.

Material and methods
This article, as part of a series, is a brief communication with characteristics of a narrative review. It is intended as a vehicle to raise questions and stimulate discussion, while providing a balanced, data-informed commentary rather than opinion based on intuition.

Results and conclusions
We briefly summarise the Module and then focus, with discussion, on recommendations for low back pain as an exemplar condition. As in each paper in the series, we centre our attention on physiotherapy and highlight the experience of Georgia as the first country to adapt the PIR within its health system. The PIR is a contemporary, evidence-based resource that places physiotherapy at the core of rehabilitation recommendations, while also clearly emphasising the roles of other professions.
